The 2007 Oxford word of the year is "locavore", a word coined by 4 women in San Francisco who are committed to eating only food grown or produced within a 100 mile radius.Since this movement is about consumption and reducing environmental impact (shipping over long distance requires more fuel) and I consume a fair amount of beer, I've decided to be a "beer locavore".
After a 2008 in which I drank only beer brewed within a 100 mile radius of where I was standing or barstool sitting (with occasional slip-ups), I will transform to being locavore-friendly in 2009.

I think the closest was a Smuttynose selection.
Did they have any Danish brews?
Jim-
Thanks for the comment. There was Smuttynose (I had one, the IPA) and also several Allagash offerings. The place was great, I'll post a more thorough description soon.
Ms. DD-
Thanks for your comment as well. I will research the Danish offerings more thoroughly and report back. In the meantime, I did notice a lovely Danish beer at the Whole Foods. Sadly, it does not meet my locavore requiremenst so I cannot comment on the quality.
I must say that I heard indirectly from a couple of the loyal readers, both of whom indicated that your comment was particularly intelligent and insightful. I agree. We all encourage you to continue to post. It might make sense to add your photo to the comments.

Said this on another blog, but I walked by last night and it looked like every hot girl in the county was headed in there.
Can somebody describe a little what the atmosphere is like and can just couple guys go in there and grab some beers and stand or is it all sit down with waitress service?
Did they stay true to their word on no sports on the tvs? I can understand why but everybody puts the Sox on when it's on.
Anyway, it's great that we have Novare plue The Grill Room(opening Friday) in the Old Port for normal people who aren't looking to punch people in the face and dance on bars.
